The heart of our Pulmonary Center is the specialists from recognized Thai, American and British institutes. These specialists are experienced in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of all pulmonary and respiratory system diseases. Rehabilitation and consultation services are also provided to enhance patients’ quality of life during treatment and after. Physicians and staff work as a unified team in order to achieve the best possible treatment results.

  • Diagnosis
    Pulmonary Centre is well equipped with medical instruments and technologies for the diagnosis and assessment of disease severity.
    • Chest x-ray
    • CT scan
    • Low-dose computerized tomography – It is a technology that use low radiation dose and can generate a three-dimensional images with high resolution.
    • PET/CT scan – It is a radiological test used to evaluate the stage of lung cancer. A sugar is injected into bloodstream. When cancers cell take up the sugar, it can be seen more obviously than the normal cells
    • Ventilation-perfusion scan
    • Biopsy
    • Bronchoscopy
    • Pulmonary function testing
    • Bronchial challenge testing (Methacholine challenge)
    • Sleep test – It is used to diagnosis and evaluate the severity of sleep disorders, e.g. snoring, difficulty in breathing, and apnea
  • Treatment
    The treatment options depend on the symptoms and conditions the patient has. Examples of treatment options are:

    Pulmonary rehabilitation At Bumrungrad, Pulmonary Center works with Rehabilitation Center in order to improve lung function including a therapy, before and after lung surgery to reduce pain and enable the patients to have a normal daily life.

Low-Dose CT

With the latest advanced technology, lung cancer screening can now be performed with low-dose computed tomography (low-dose CT). This screening method takes 3-dimensional x-rays of the lungs in high resolution with reduced exposure to radiation. Low-dose CT helps to:

  • Detect abnormalities that could be cancerous even though they are small or obscured. Low-dose CT scanning is faster and more reliable than standard screening chest x-rays which can detect only large cancer tumors or tumors that are not hidden behind the heart, bones or lungs.
  • Screen for lung cancer in the early stages so that treatment can commence before the cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
  • Reduce exposure to radiation due to low-dose CT

Targeted Therapy

Cancer treatment through chemotherapy medicine can result in adverse side affects in some people. This is because the medicine may sometimes start to attack healthy cells as well as the cancer cells.


To prevent this, a new type of treatment which specifically targets only cancer cells has been developed, known as targeted therapy. This form of treatment restricts the specific cell-signaling process which causes the growth of cancer cells, while also separating the cancer cells and having as little effect on regular cells as possible. This means that there are significantly fewer side-effects resulting from targeted therapy when compared with chemotherapy medicine.
